YATAMA: Thanks to a helpful forum member who sent me cuttings of Boggy Creek fig found at the abandoned TX state AG experiment station, I now have several making roots.
The fig was apparently discovered at the historic farm in Austin so could possibly be a variety introduced to TX through Mexico, or simply from anywhere in the Southwest or Southeast( lots of people came to TX from other states and even Germany).
Anyhow the current owners of the land called Boggy Creek Farm, say the only fig they found there when they acquired the place less than 15 years ago is definitely Brunswick.I suspect that the TX AG officials would have recognized Brunswick, so the current one they called Boggy Creek was likely some other variety that was not preserved on site but taken to their fig breeding project which apparently never produced a variety they disseminated
For us here,Boggy Creek cuttings produced many roots real fast though shoots and leaves are sure slow to appear. We are eager to share info on this possibly historic antebellum variety as it develops.I really hope it does not turn out to be Brunswick! Any fig that could survive in the grown up weed patch of the former state AG experiment station in central TX with zero care for so many years is definitely ,as we say,”TEXAS TOUGH”, like HEB grocery puts on all the plastic ziplock sandwich bags in their Austin supermarkets! OH guys, how I dearly love that state!
